How it all started

Joseph Wannet's journey began on the football fields of De Graafschap. But his vision extended beyond the pitch. Recognizing a gap in specialized insurance for sports professionals and other athletes, he translated his love for football and sports into the establishment of Wannet Sports Insurance in 1995. This endeavour grew beyond its football roots, evolving into a leading provider for both sports and entertainment sectors, safeguarding unique needs and risks.

Wannet Sports Insurance is founded by Joseph Wannet in 1995

In 1995, Joseph Wannet founded Wannet Sports Insurance with the ambitious goal of revolutionizing the way sports insurance was provided in the Netherlands. With a deep commitment to innovation, excellence, and customer service, Wannet Sports Insurance quickly established ourselves as a leading provider in the industry.

Becoming the market leader within the first 5 years

Aon Netherlands bought Wannet Sports Insurance

After Wannet Sports Insurance became Lloyd's Coverholder in 2000, Wannet Sports Insurance grew on to being the market leader in sports insurance in the same year. Two years later in 2002 Wannet Sports Insurance was sold to Aon Netherlands.

Re-start Wannet Sports Insurance in the Netherlands

In 2007, Wannet started their operations in Germany and quickly established a strong presence in the market. The following year, in 2008, the company expanded to the Netherlands and within a short span of time became the market leader in sports and entertainment insurance again.

‍Aon purchaesed the Unirobe Meeùs Group and for second time Wannet Sports Insurance

Wannet Sports Insurance regained its position as the market leader in sports insurance after restarting in the Netherlands in 2008. This success led to Unirobe Meeùs Group acquiring a majority share in the company. In 2017, Aon acquired the Unirobe Meeùs Group, which once again made Wannet Sports Insurance part of a larger organization.

As a fully independent insurance company, we are committed to providing innovative and high-quality sports- and specialty insurance solutions to our clients. We are excited about this new chapter in our company's history and look forward to an exciting future.
